The Bureau for Public Service Reforms (BPSR) has rated the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), as the best public sector organisation in the country with a score above 90% to clinch the Platinum level award.
Ifetayo Ali-Landing Wins 2017 Sphinx Competition
Ifetayo Ali-Landing, a 14-year-old cellist, recently won first place in the junior division at the prestigious Annual Sphinx Competition with her performance of Lalo’s Concerto in D Minor.
Her win includes a cash prize of $10,000, performances with the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra, participation with the Sphinx Soloist Program Partners, solo appearances with major orchestras, and a radio interview on “From the Top,” a nationally-broadcast music program.
The national Sphinx Competition provides young Black and Latino classical string instrument musicians the opportunity to compete under the guidance of an internationally-renowned panel of judges and perform with established professional musicians.
Voice IT Wins 2017 Re: Code Nigeria Hackathon
Voice IT, a Voice banking app, has won the 2017 Re: Code Nigeria Hackathon and a prize money of ₦1.5 million as well as access to Microsoft Azure and the IBM platform for a year.
The winning app allows banking customers to use voice commands to carry out banking operations such as checking one’s account balance, transferring funds, and purchasing airtime for one’s mobile phone are done using voice. In other words, you speak or talk and the App does all the work.

2017 NAF Inter-Command Combat Sports Competition
Team Headquarters Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has emerged the best overall winner of the 2017 NAF Inter-Command Combat Sports Competition with 9 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals. The four days competitive sporting activities dubbed ‘Jos 2017’ began on Monday, 27 March 2017 with 6 teams competing for honours.
Team Training Command came 2nd with 8 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals while Team Special Operations Command won 2 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals to clinch the 3rd position.
Team Logistics Command came 4th with 2 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze medals, Team Tactical Air Command with 1 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze medals was in the 5th position and Team Mobility Command with 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals came 6th.
100% Indigenous Urine-To-Gases Equipment
A Nigerian scientist, Ejikeme P. Nwosu, and his team of researchers have fabricated equipment that converts urine into flammable gases, biomethane and hydrogen-rich gases, with 100% indigenous technological inputs.
Nwosu, a graduate of Pure and Industrial Chemistry from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (NAU), Anambra State with Masters of Science degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of Ibadan (UI), Oyo State, asserts that a blend of these gases- biomethane and hydrogen-rich gases- can be effectively used to run a gas turbine generator to give the nation over 11,250 megawatts hours of electricity.
