School for the Gifted Wins 7th Korea-Nigeria Quiz

The School for the Gifted, Gwagwalada in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has emerged winner of the 7th Korea-Nigeria quiz for secondary schools.

The competition was organised by the Korean Cultural Centre (KCC) in Nigeria and the FCT Secondary Education Board.

Mr. Han Sungrae, the Director of KCC said that the competition was to encourage students to know more about history, culture, values and general knowledge about the two countries, Nigeria and Korea. According to Mr. Sungrae:

“When we know more about ourselves then understanding grows and unity is fostered, leading to better relationship between the two countries.

I thank the FCT Secondary Education Board for working with us. The principals, teachers, students and schools that participated in this year’s edition are greatly appreciated.’’

He further stated that 20 schools in the FCT competed at the preliminary stages adding that only the seven made it to the finals.

Ms Victoria George, Head of Division, Curricular, FCT secondary Education Board asserted:

“This is a programme that all schools in the FCT look forward to participate in because it provide opportunity for foreign scholarship and also serve as motivating factor for our students to excel in their WAEC.’’

Students were expected to read up facts about Korea and Nigeria and answer questions on such facts in order to excel in the competition.

Participants include Government Secondary Schools (GSS) Gwagwalada, Pegi and Dei-Dei. Others included GSS, Karu, GSS Nyanya and Government Girls Secondary School, Dutse.

While School for the Gifted scored a total of 90 points to emerge overall winner and were awarded an `All in one computer PC’, GSS Nyanya came second with 80 points and got a `43 inch LED LG TV’.

Government Girls Secondary School, Dutse who came first in the 2016 edition clinched the 2017 third prize of HP Printer with 75 points.

The students and seven teachers from the seven schools were also presented with various gifts ranging from Bluetooth speakers, School bags, Notes pads and Pens by the KCC.
