Gloria Bulus Wins 2020 Alfredo Sirkis Memorial Green Ring Award

Gloria Bulus has won the “Alfredo Sirkis Memorial Green Ring Award” from former U.S Vice-President, Al Gore, at the 44th Climate Reality Leadership Corps Global Training.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Green Ring Award is presented to outstanding Climate Reality Leaders who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to their role as climate communicators and activists.

Presenting the award to Ms. Gloria Bulus virtually, Mr. Gore said she was the first to receive the award in Africa.

He identified other recipients of the award as Nana Firman from Indonesia, Ximena Loría from Costa Rica and Tim Guinee, U.S.

Chinelo Dike Okonkwo Wins 2020 Unicaf Nigeria Essay Competition

Chinelo Dike Okonkwo has emerged winner of the 2020 Unicaf Nigeria Essay Competition at an awards ceremony held online, on July 3, 2020.

In a statement by Chinelo Dike Okonkwo, the first winner has been awarded a full scholarship for a Master’s degree of her choice with Unicaf University through online delivery and also a cash prize of $300.

The second winner Eze Cornelius Chidiebere was awarded an 80 percent scholarship and also a cash prize of $200. Oyafemi Toluwalese Augustine, the third winner received a 75 percent scholarship for a Master’s degree scholarship and also a free tablet.

The statement also thanked over 500 Bachelor degree holders that took part in the essay competition, “Is online learning the future of education”.

Dr. Eugene Ohu Wins $234,000 Grant From Templeton World Charity Foundation To Teach Children Empathy And Compassion Through Virtual Reality Games

Dr. Eugene Ohu, a researcher at the Lagos Business School has won a $234,000 grant from the Templeton World Charity Foundation, Inc.

A statement on the website of the school said Dr. Eugene Ohu, won the grant to conduct a two-year virtual reality research titled Teaching Children Empathy and Compassion through Virtual Reality Games.

Dapo Olorunyomi Receives CPJ 2020 International Press Freedom Award

Dapo Olorunyomi has been honored alongside four others with the 2020 International Press Freedom Award by the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).

Dapo Olorunyomi is the co-founder, CEO, and publisher of the Nigerian newspaper Premium Times, which today is one of the most trusted newspapers in Nigeria and a standard for African investigative journalism.

Dapo Olorunyomi has dedicated his life to holding the powerful to account and is a fierce advocate for press freedom.

Dapo Olorunyomi worked as an editor at other Nigerian media outlets, including PM News, which he helped co-found; Radio Nigeria; The African Guardian magazine; and NEXT newspapers. In 2005, he founded the Lagos-based Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism, named after Africa’s first Nobel laureate in literature and dedicated to exposing corruption and human rights abuses. He also co-founded the Premium Times Centre for Investigative Journalism, a partner organization to the newspaper, which has its own press freedom tracker.

Dapo Olorunyomi serves on the advisory boards of nonprofit organizations Africa Check and the International Consortium of Investigative Journalism.
