Runcie Chidebe Awarded 2020 IVLP Alumni Award for Social Innovation And Change

Runcie Chidebe has emerged recipient of the 2020 Global Ties U.S. International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) Alumni Award for Social Innovation and Change.

Runcie is a health advocate, civil society activist, and a leading voice in making cancer control a national health priority in Nigeria. His many accomplishments include launching trainings for oncology care, volunteer mentorships, establishing breast cancer support groups, and advocating for improved cancer care and mandatory health insurance. He also led campaigns to establish the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment through an act of the Nigerian Parliament, and sits on several committees to ensure its implementation, as well as other programs for cancer prevention.

Samuel Miracle Wins 2019 World Chinese Bridge Competition

Samuel Miracle has emerged winner of the 2019 World Chinese Bridge Language Competition held in Henan Province.

Samuel Miracle won over 120 competitors from 105 countries in the world.

The Chinese embassy in Abuja, presented Samuel Miracle as winner with the award winner pledging to solve Nigeria’s electricity challenge after completing the scholarship he won to study Engineering in China.

Amina Mohammed Wins Inaugural Global Citizen World Leader Award

Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed along with three others have been awarded with the World Leader Prize at the inaugural Global Citizen Prize award ceremony at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Amina Mohammed, is among the four winners of the 2019 Global Citizen Prize honoured along with popular musician Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner (Sting), film maker Richard Curtis and founder/CEO of Chobani, Hamdi Ulukaya.

Sadjo Samuel And Rose Akuso Win Inaugural Ikogosi 10 Kilometers Marathon Race

Sadjo Samuel and Rose Akuso have emerged overall winners of the inaugural Ikogosi 10 kilometers marathon race.

Sadjo Samuel beat no fewer than 1,999 other athletes to the finish line in in 30 minutes 40 seconds to win the one million Naira cash prize.

Shehu Muazu emerged with a second place finish in 31 minutes 22 seconds and received a cash prize of 500,000 Naira.

Oyebode Dada Samuel came third at 31 minutes 48 seconds and received a cash prize of 300,000 Naira.

Winners Of 2019 Nigeria Media Merit Award (NMMA)

Winners have emerged at the 2019 Nigeria Media Merit Award (NMMA), held at the MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos on the 15th of December 2019.

The Chairman of the Awards Nominating Panel, Professor Ralph Akinfeleye, said only entries that scored 70 percent and above were qualified for nomination.

The 2019 Nigeria Media Merit Award (NMMA), is the 27th edition of the awards.

Giving a breakdown of the entries received, the Chairman, Professor Ralph Akinfeleye, said in the print category, there were 457 entrants, who submitted 671 entries across 39 categories.

In the Radio Category, he said there were 29 entrants who submitted 37 entries across the six categories; and in the television category, there were 34 entrants, who submitted 44 entries across the six categories.

According to him, the assessors were delighted that there was an increase in the number of entries, compared to the previous year.

However, he expressed worry that the quality of some of the entries received this year was poor, especially from the prism of investigative journalism.
