Nigerian researchers have identified and validated local plants for the treatment of viral infections.

The local plants include: Bambusa vulgaris (bamboo) and Aframomum melegueta (alligator pepper), Azadirachta indica (neem), Allium cepa (onion), Allium sativum (garlic), rhizomes of Curcuma longa (turmeric), and Aloe vera, Vernonia amygdalina (bitter leaf), Garcinia kola (bitter kola), Citrus medica (lemon), Cymbopogon citratus (lemon grass), Moringa, Phyllanthus amarus, avocado (Persea americana), and Gardonema mushroom.

Lagos State University (LASU) Wins Inaugural African Students Football Union (ASFU) Tournament

The male football team of Lagos State University (LASU) has emerged champions at the inaugural African Students Football Union (ASFU) 2019 tournament.

The male football team of the school won the University for Development Studies (UDS), Ghana (a West African University Games, WAUG champion) 1-0 in the final match at the Adamasingba Stadium, Ibadan, Oyo State on January 27, 2019.

Following the victory, LASU represents Africa at the World Universities Football Competition which is to hold in Russia later in the year.

Bayelsa Queens Emerge 2017/2018 Nigeria Women Premier League Champions

Bayelsa Queens Football Club of Yenagoa have emerged the Nigeria Women Premier League champions for the 2017/2018 season after defeating Nasarawa Amazons 2-0 at the Agege Stadium on Sunday, 27th of January 2019 in the final of the Super 4 Play off.

This is coming 11 years after an elusive chase for the title by the club (Bayelsa Queens).

My name is Mafeni Praise. I am a proud Nigerian. I want to speak on the theme, “the power of the Nigerian self-esteem”. This theme reminds me of the statement made by a friend of mine sometime ago, she said: “if there was anything I could change to my status as a Nigerian?”, hearing this, I laughed at my com-patriotic friend. Nigeria has just celebrated her 58th years of independence; yet, some of her citizens do not find reasons to celebrate due to some problems accompanying the country. However, there are many reasons why Nigeria has become the love of many around the world including me; from her fabulous lifestyle, to our rich and beautiful foods, our amazing tourist attractions, our wonderful sense of humor. We are indeed a blessed country of extraordinary variety. Nigeria is not a perfect country, as there is no perfect country, and this is where I oblige to stand up for the country of my birth, my Nigeria.

Good afternoon my viewers. My name is Felix Emmanuel. I am a Nigerian. For the next few minutes, I will be talking about the power of the Nigerian self esteem. Self esteem is simply one’s view of one self. It can be high in which case one sees oneself as adequate or sufficient to pursue any goal or purpose in life, or it can be negative in which case, the person feels negative about life and feels that he or she is inadequate to pursue goals and purpose in life. Self esteem plays a vital role in individualistic and societal well-being and progress. Despite the importance of self-esteem, there are disturbing facts and figures about global read of self-esteem. According to Dr. Joe Rubino, the creator of the popular self-esteem system, 85% of the world population suffers from self-esteem deficit but when one looks at Nigeria, the records are a little different. According to the World Happiness Rating in 2017, as reported by The Guardian online newspaper platform of 29th March 2017, Nigeria is rated the 95th happiest country of the world, but it’s not as though Nigeria is one of the best countries in the world. But what is actually contributing to the way which despite our challenges are still delightful about ourselves and progressive in our different engagements? It’s simply like the Afrobeat musician Fela said: “we are suffering and smiling.”
