Aishatu Dalil Wins 2021 BBC Hausa Short Story Writing Contest For Women

18-year-old Aishatu Dalil has won the 2021 BBC Hausa Short Story Writing Contest For Women, with a story titled: “Hakkina” (‘My Right’).

Aishatu Dalil’s story ‘Hakkina’ tells the story of a young woman, Fatima, who is raped by her stepfather and is threatened by her mother not to tell anyone about the abuse. She locks Fatima in a room despite the injuries she sustained during the assault.

To Fatima’s mother, silencing her daughter not only covers for her husband but also ‘protects’ her daughter from the stigma faced by victims of rape in the Hausa society.

Kada Kings of Kaduna State has emerged male volleyball champions of the National Division One League [2021] at the indoor sports hall of Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on November 27, 2021.

Kada Kings of Kaduna State emerged champions despite losing their last league game against Kwara United VC as both teams gained promotion to the Nigerian Volleyball Premier League following their successful campaign.

Ismael Sadjo & Joy Abiye-David Win 2021 Warri/Effurun Peace Marathon

Ismael Sadjo and Joy Abiye-David have emerged winners of the 2021 Warri/Effurun Peace Marathon held on November 27, 2021 in Warri, Delta State.

Ismael Sadjo had a run time of 29 minutes 45 seconds. Subject to ratification, Sadjo’s time is a new 10 km national record.

In the women’s race, Joy Abiye-David also created a new course record.

She clocked 35.02 minutes while Rose Akusho was second with 35.04 minutes and Moseje Vera Yohanna finished third at 36.30 minutes.

The 5th edition of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) Annual National Undergraduate Nigerian Content Essay Competition Award and Prize giving ceremony was held on November 24, 2021 in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.

Esther Oluwabukola Gbeja Wins 2021 NCC National Essay Competition

Esther Oluwabukola Gbeja has emerged overall winner of the 2021 NCC National Essay Competition during the prize presentation ceremony held on November 23, 2021, at the Conference Room of the Commission’s Head Office in Abuja.

Over 2,000 entries were received from 97 public and private tertiary institutions for the competition in which Esther Oluwabukola Gbeja, a 600-Level student of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Ilorin, was declared overall winner. Gbeja received a cash prize of 500,000.00, a laptop, and a printer; while the first runner-up, Moses Nosa Edosa, a final year student of Accounting at the University of Port Harcourt, received a cash prize of 300,000.00 only.

Two second runners-up emerged from the competition to pick the third prize. MarcPatrick Efevuriri Efeni, a 200-Level student of Cybersecurity at the Airforce Institute of Technology, Kaduna; and Nasiru Abdul Karim, a 400-Level student of Computer Engineering at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, both came third having scored same number of points. They both received cash prizes of 200,000 each.
