Good afternoon my viewers. My name is Felix Emmanuel. I am a Nigerian. For the next few minutes, I will be talking about the power of the Nigerian self esteem. Self esteem is simply one’s view of one self. It can be high in which case one sees oneself as adequate or sufficient to pursue any goal or purpose in life, or it can be negative in which case, the person feels negative about life and feels that he or she is inadequate to pursue goals and purpose in life. Self esteem plays a vital role in individualistic and societal well-being and progress. Despite the importance of self-esteem, there are disturbing facts and figures about global read of self-esteem. According to Dr. Joe Rubino, the creator of the popular self-esteem system, 85% of the world population suffers from self-esteem deficit but when one looks at Nigeria, the records are a little different. According to the World Happiness Rating in 2017, as reported by The Guardian online newspaper platform of 29th March 2017, Nigeria is rated the 95th happiest country of the world, but it’s not as though Nigeria is one of the best countries in the world. But what is actually contributing to the way which despite our challenges are still delightful about ourselves and progressive in our different engagements? It’s simply like the Afrobeat musician Fela said: “we are suffering and smiling.”

Self-esteem simply means the value of one’s self. How you value yourself. How worthy you see yourself. Self-respect, self-regard – that is what self-esteem means. It also means the value one placed on him or her -self. What is the source of the power of a Nigerian self-esteem? We have different nature of people and their self-esteem cannot actually be the same measure but there is something that holds those true. That gives us the sense of belonging; that gives us the sense of pride; that gives us the sense of value, respect and regard for our abilities and how we can excel. There are various aspect and source of this power.

Mbong Utibe Abasi Wins ICPC Anti-Corruption Essay Competition [2019]

Mbong Utibe Abasi from Imperial Secondary School, Eket, Akwa Ibom has won an Anti-Corruption Essay Competition organised by Independent Corrupt Practices & Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), in collaboration with Youth Alive Foundation.

Mbong Utibe Abasi emerged winner from 1,539 students who were mobilised in the clubs’ rejuvenation exercise out of which 392 drawn from Anti-Corruption Clubs in 126 Schools from Akwa Ibom, Kano, Lagos, River States, as well as Federal Capital Territory participated in the Essay Competition.

Team Neptune Wins InterswitchSPAK 1.0 Innovation Challenge

Team Neptune, a group of nine teenage students have emerged winners of the InterswitchSPAK 1.0 Innovation Challenge, for collaborating to develop a technological solution towards providing Nigerians with easier access to National Health Insurance.

Team Neptune, made up of nine SS2 students, were mentored by the trio of Princess Edo-Osagie, Inalegwu Alogwu and Abiodun Adebisi.  They were tasked to: “propose a solution that promotes an all-inclusive health insurance scheme in Nigeria, leveraging technology”. The team’s health solution, which incorporated the current National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), makes provision for web doctors for policy holders with access to the internet and tele-medicine option for those without access to the internet.
