Jowhor Ile Wins 2016 Etisalat Literature Prize

Jowhor Ile, has emerged winner of the 2016 Etisalat Literature Prize for his book: And after Many Days, published in Nigeria by Kachifo Limited, which depicts originality of voice, literary excellence and African sensibility.

Jowhor Ile becomes the first Nigerian to win the award as past winners of the Prize: Fiston Mwanza Mujila from The Democratic Republic of Congo (Tram 83; 2015); South African novelist Songeziwe Mahlangu (Penumbra, 2014) and Zimbabwean writer NoViolet Bulawayo (We Need New Names, 2013).

As winner, Jowhor Ile receives £15,000, an engraved Montblanc Meisterstück pen, an Etisalat sponsored book tour to three African countries.

He will also have an Etisalat-sponsored fellowship at the University of East Anglia, mentored by Professor Giles Foden, author of “The Last King of Scotland”.

The runners-up include; Jacqui L’Ange’s (South Africa) “The Seed Thief” and another Nigerian Juliet Iromuanya’s “Mr and Mrs Doctor”.

The other runners-up will also enjoy a sponsored multi-city book tour while Etisalat will also purchase 1,000 copies of their books for distribution to schools, libraries and book clubs across Africa with the objective of promoting the reading culture and the publishing industry at large.

Anne-Marie Osawemwemze Imafidon Receives MBE Award from Queen Elizabeth II

Miss Anne-Marie Osawemwemze Imafidon has been decorated by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, with the prestigious honour of Member of the Most Excellent British Empire (MBE) for her services to young women with specialty in Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The eldest daughter of Professor Chris and Ann Imafidon from Edo State whose family has been dubbed the Brainiest Family in Europe, Anne-Marie holds the record of being the youngest girl to ever pass two GCSE examinations — for Mathematics and Information Technology and A-level computing at the age of 11 in Britain.

An MBE is an award given by the Queen to an individual for outstanding service to the community or local hands on service.

SO&U Wins 2017 African Cristal Festival Emerald Award

SO&U, an M&C Saatchi Partner creative agency has won the 2017 Emerald award of the African Cristal Festival for its Globacom Telecommunications ‘Grandpa Goes to London’ campaign in the Main – Continental – Awards category.

SO&U under the leadership of its celebrated Creative Director, Anthony Ekun was also shortlisted this year, 2017 for its innovative Glo Hamma campaign dubbed ‘Jenifa’.

Senior African Wrestling Championships 2017

Nigeria’s contingent to the Senior African Wrestling Championships 2017 has won eight gold and two silver medals held at Marrakech, Morocco.

Odunayo Adekuoroye’s victory in the 55 kg, Blessing Oborududu (63 kg), Mercy Genesis (48 kg), Aminat Adeniyi (58 kg), Kemeasuodei Dressman (69 kg) and Gofit Winnie (75 kg) ensured that the nation won six gold medals in the female freestyle.

In the freestyle men’s cadre, Soso Tamarau in 97 kg and Ogbonna Emmanuel John (70 kg) clinched gold medals.

Bose Samuel, who contested in the 53 kg and Bisola Makanjuola (60 kg) also got silver medals in the female freestyle.

Oresegun & Kalango Win Cambridge Learner Awards

Oluwagbemisola Oresegun of Caleb International College, Lagos and Enatarari Kalango of Meadow Hall College, Lagos, receive the prestigious British Council Recognition and Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards for their exceptional performance in the June 2015/2016 Cambridge examinations.

Oluwagbemisola Oresegun came tops in Religious Studies in the O’ level Cambridge Examinations conducted across the six continents of the world in June 2015/2016.

Enatarari Kalango won the prize for the Best Across Eight Cambridge IGCSEs in the Cambridge International Examinations conducted across the six continents of the world in June 2016.

The international qualifications are recognised by the world’s best universities and employers as giving students a wide range of options in their education and career.

Winners Of 2016 Deutsche Bank AG Awards

Deutsche Bank AG, has rewarded Ecobank Nigeria Limited, Access Bank, Sterling Bank Plc, Stanbic IBTC and Zenith Bank, for excellence in payment efficiency, cash management and trade finance.

The first award by Deutsche Bank AG, titled “Straight-Through Processing (STP) Excellence Award”, which has been a feature of Nigeria’s financial markets for six years, went to Ecobank Nigeria Ltd, followed by Stanbic IBTC and Sterling Bank Plc.
